DR. BERGLUND'S COMMENTS:  Omega 3 fatty acids like fish oil and flax seed oil contain one of two ESSENTIAL fatty acids needed by the body. Most research these days has uncovered that we are significantly more depleted of the omega 3s as compared to the omega 6. Fish oils and flax seed oils are very useful in cases of dry skin, painful/excessive menstrual periods, and autoimmune conditions like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. We also use Omega 3 fatty acids to reduce cholesterol & triglycerides in the blood, reduce inflammation/joint pains and decrease the stickiness of platelets (thinning blood like aspirin does). The hard part in administering it yourself is some cases require 1-2 caps/day and other times it's helpful to go 10-15/day.
